Deeper lines, wrinkles and ‘sagging’ are all caused by a loss of volume within deeper tissues as we age. The fat pads in our faces lose volume and our facial bones move, which results in the sagging and deep lines around particularly the lower face and neck. Dermal fillers aim to restore volume loss in a number of ways:
Depending on the type of filler chosen, these can treat the deeper lines and wrinkles found in the lower face, as well as improving general sagging and laxity.
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are injected into the deeper layers of the skin. They act like a dense gel with gives projection and volume to the face.
Other fillers act by stimulating the skin to produce more natural collagen and elastin. These types of fillers don’t have such an instant effect and don’t provide volume enhancement in the same way as hyaluronic acid fillers, but can be a good option for global rejuvenation and improvement of skin quality and laxity. These types of fillers will need 3-4 sessions 4 weeks apart.
Dr Emma takes a ‘less is more’ approach to dermal fillers. She will start by exploring your desired effect and then create a bespoke treatment plan to ensure subtle enhancement. Dr Emma carefully weighs the potential benefits and risks and will ensure you are fully informed and involved in every step of the decision making process.
Numbing cream may be used over the face before injections, depending on the area being treated. After the treatment, skin becomes may become red and swollen. Occasionally there will be bruising. By the next day, most of this will have gone down; bruising may take a little more time to settle.
