The term ‘skin booster’ has evolved to mean a group of injectables which are used to improve the texture and quality of the skin, increase hydration and reduce fine lines. They work in different ways. Some use light versions of hyaluronic acid which can run between the tissues and provide hydration and glow, without significant volumisation. Some contain polynucleotides – these are small fragments of genetic material sourced from the sperm of salmon and trout which help to boost the skin’s natural collagen production.
Skin boosters can be very helpful for a general glow up and for areas of thin skin for example the under eye area, the neck and the back of the hand. They won’t improve the appearance of deep lines or dynamic lines, but can be brilliant for a subtle, rejuvenated healthy glow.
Depending on which skin booster you are having, numbing cream will be applied 30-40 minutes before. Some skin boosters are administered with multiple small injections with a very fine needle “meso” technique. Some will use a fine tube (cannula) to inject into the skin. You may have some swelling or bruising after, which will settle in a few days. Depending on which treatment you decide on, you would require a course of 2-4 injections approximately 2-4 weeks apart.
