PLATELET

PLASMA

WHAT IS PRP

(Platelet Rich Plasma)?

Platelets are cells within the blood which act as first responders in the wound healing cascade. They produce a variety of signalling molecules and growth factors which can help to stimulate cell function in a number of different areas, as well as boost collagen.

PRP involves taking a sample of your own blood and extracting the platelet rich component and then injecting this back into the area to be treated.

What can PRP treat?

Hair Loss

PRP can be very useful in treating male and female pattern hair loss, due to its ability to stimulate the hair follicle. 3-4 sessions are required 4-6 weeks apart and then maintenance treatment every 6 months. PRP may often be combined with other treatments for hair loss.

Acne Scarring

PRP can be a very useful treatment for acne scarring. This may be combined with microneedling treatment. 3-4 sessions will be performed 4-6 weeks apart.

Skin rejuvenation

PRP is an excellent choice for general skin rejuvenation. It is 100% natural, and is safe for all skin tones and skin types. 3 sessions are performed every 4-6 weeks, with 6 monthly maintenance sessions.

What is Dr Emma’s approach to PRP?

PRP is a versatile treatment which can be useful for a number of indications and is great for those who are experiencing male or female pattern hair loss.

Downtime and aftercare

Numbing cream may be used over the face before injections, depending on the area being treated. After the treatment, skin becomes may become red and swollen and occasionally there will be bruising. By the next day, most of this will have gone down although bruising may take a little more time to settle. If microneedling is performed, the face will be red for 2-3 days after.
